ADW.Launcher 0.8.6

A small bugfix one, with one little option for those using high end devices…

Fixes:

  • A nasty FC while trying to add some widgets caused by the new dialog (myself dumbasssss)
  • Scrollable widget option was incorrectly displayed
  • Removed “Background alpha” option for the app drawer, you already can select the alpha on the Background Color Picker (thanks to Takuo for this :)
  • Hopefully fixed the haptic feedback not working on donut build…. I cannot test this, i have no donut device, so please comment!!!

News:

  • There’s a new OPTION called “Desktop Cache”. If you disable this, your launcher will use less ram but scrolling trhough desktops could be a bit laggier. Disable it if you’re using a “HighEnd device” with BIG screen and you use more than 10 fullscreen widgets…. this way there will be less FC’s for you.

This time i have no time to build the system versions, so head to Dr. Cloverdale site frequently to see if he releases it :-)

Enjoy guys!

Hehe, just kidding man, I love your Launcher… I’ll just have to wait for Dr. C to package it up for me. xD

Background Alpha for Drawer settings in Background Color keeps resetting to default and is not allowing change of Alpha, it does take for colors but not Alpha.

So I was a dumb dumb and applied Dr.Cloverdale’s recovery version instead of using ADB like I was supposed to (running Cyanogen 5.0.8) and now I have two ADW Settings entries. Anyway to remove the one that shows up when you push menu?

Hey hope you are considering a gesture integration into the launcher, never heard back from you after the email.

    Thanks,

This Home screen is so awesome. Thanks for the frequent updates and hard work.

I have an idea that may be useful for some.

Its the dock, I have issues sometimes flicking it up and down. Anyway to make a shortcut for the back button to open and close the dockbar?

Back button doesn’t do anything on the home screen anyway (at least for Nexus One).

Push back button, dock opens, flick trackball left or right for more docks. Nice little something to have over the competition yeah?

I second Mike’s suggestions & have one also. Could you add a 3d launcher option for the app drawer. That’s the only thing stopping me from using adw over launcher pro. Great work though. No lag or fc even on my Eris.

loving the update, no more force closes and I can finally have a 5×5 home screen without sacrificing the widgets.

To minor bugs you may want to look in to tho,
    - folders use 4×4 size rather than the amount of rows and cols used on the home screen, so end up with blank space around em when using a larger home screen size
-search widget lacks size setter dialog

Other than that its all good. Thanks so much for your work on this incredible Launcher.

  2. So… would taking the APK and just replacing the one from Dr. Cloverdale’s package for 0.8.5 then resigning work for installing this as a system app?

I agree with Ben’s comment about the app drawer launcher. Options for a different icon there would be great. Not that i dont love the little squares I just think a selection would be nice. Also a way to upload your own custom button would be cool as well. Great launcher though! Keep up the good work!

I too agree with Ben. I used ADW for a while and despised Launcher Pro, but Launcher Pro upped the ante and added just about all the options ADW has. Plus it has the 3D app drawer. I would drop Launcher Pro in a heartbeat if you would implement a 3D app drawer in ADW. Please consider adding this option to ADW as it seems alot of people would rather have it on ADW so they can drop Launcher Pro. Thanks.

Can u add themes for us non rooted folks? Or at least tell us where to get them from? Love the launcher!

    Thx for the update!

A small issue since last 2 builds is, the apps labels do not show up at the same time as the icons and that’s quite unnatural (well I don’t wanna hide them). And the “fade apps label” setting doesn’t work either.

As Smooth, no FC, on Nexus One Froyo.

    Thx again!

P.S. Can the action icons be evenly spaced when using 4 instead of 2? u know at the moment the inner 2 r very closed to the home key and the outer 2 r quite far apart. Just an aesthetic suggestion which doesn’t affect the awesomeness of your launcher.

C’mon people, why do you keep asking the dev to add features that already exist in one other launcher?? It makes no sense, if you want those features you can use the other one, no one’s stopping you…

      • June 20th, 2010 3:58am

The reason we’re requesting features, such as a 3D app-drawer, is because this launcher is much better than others, including LauncherPro. Why sacrifice all the features in ADW to switch to something inferior simply because it has one or two things we like?

    Good ob ;)
But I noticed a few problems:
    1) google search widget is not resizable (no size dialog when I add the widget to my homepage) and it takes always 4 columns
    2) icon selectors (either old or new) look very bad because are not centered around the icon: they and have a lot of unused space at the bottom (which will overwrite the column below). They should not pretend that icon labels are enabled.
    3) when dragging an icon into the bottom (LAB and RAB), you could provide a way to select a different icon
    4) it’s not possible to change the order of the icons inside the hidden bottom dockbar
    5) it should be possible to move the icons (LAB, RAB, dockbars) back to the home

This site really needs a forum or a way to report bugs!
    Thanks

Not sure about everyone else, but I really wasn’t a fan of the 3D app drawer anyway. But each their own.

excellent work. thank you for your time and effort.

If i could add a suggestion/request to the “Home Screen Binding” option list.
“move to default desktop / show status bar”.

basically, i like to hide the status bar, but still like easy access to it, and don’t always want to pull down the notifications tab. (ie: to check signal strength or if i’m 3g/4g or if the dl is complete, etc).

alternately, if the status bar could be made to hide and act kinda like the drawer at the bottom that would accomplish the same task in a slightly different manner. each prolly has pro/con.

Love this home launcher. I hadn’t had any problems from the past few versions, but when I try to add any size Agenda Widget, it force closes the widget when the widget size selector prompt comes up. Pitty because I really like this widget. Hopefully it’s fixed with future releases.

    Thanks for the hard work.

  3. Thanks a lot fo this build. The Desktop Cache option has significantly reduced the number of FCs!

Suggestion: I thought of this a long time ago, i now saw LauncherPro did this.

Being able to remove the “app drawer” button, and being able to replace it with an icon instead..

So you can have 5 icons on the bottom (when using froyo wide)

My buttons are FolderOrganazier icons, so i never use the app drawer button. its useless for me and probably other people too! :)

I just hope that you make something(shortcuts/wighet/buttons) to show status-bar and notification-bar without clicking “Hard-Key”.

I love “Hide status bar” Option, it looks great but it’s not useful.

    • AbsoluteZero
    • June 20th, 2010 6:21pm

Any chance in making the hidden status bar drop down when you drag from the top of the screen (similar to the toolbar in xscope). I like it hidden but it seems useful to just drag down from the top to view it (then you could drag down again to view curtain). It doesn’t seem as though there’s anything currently done by a drag from top so seems like it should be fine.

You only need to hit your phone “home” button and you’ll see a menu to select the launcher to run.
If it doesnt show, goto Settings/Applications/Manage Applications, look for HTC launcher (Rosie or something else) and hit “Clear defaults”.

Here’s a feature request! I’d like to be able to swap the action button backgrounds and app drawer button image from within the settings.

Absolutely loving this launcher version – since the addition of the customizable rows and cols + resizable widget launcher pro no longer even comes close imo.

Just as some wishlist features though :p
    - Double tap to rename an app on the homescreen
    - Folders that fill screen rather than sticking to 4*4 grid size.
    - Search bar fix
    - Back button to close the flicked up app draw thingy behind the dock
    - Enhanced app drawer – normal up/down app draw with ability to flick sideways to show different app category’s (this is a wish list after all – but tbh i though the re sizable widgets thing was equally far fetched and thats already working)

Thanks again for this epic launcher, can’t wait to see what the next versions bring :D
