ADW.Launcher 0.8.2 out!

Another release! But this time is not just a bugfix one, so i open a separate post:

News:

  • New “Home binding options”: People asked me for them, so you can now bind the home button to open/close dockbar, show notifications, etc.

Fixes:

  • Fix for the LAB/RAB not being able to drop icons there when removing the background
  • Fix for folders/live folders not opening on LAB2/RAB2
  • Other minor internal fixes.

System version:

Finally!!! Yeah, sorry guys, is here.

Warning!!!: If you’re not on a rooted phone, don’t use this. Use market version instead.

Warning!!!: If you’re running latest cyanogenmod roms, you’ll need to “push” this file overwriting the ADWlauncher.apk on /system/app/

Warning!!!: If you’re running android 1.6 this won’t work.

Warning!!!: If you’re having problems running this on your phone, try the file marked as “alternate build”

Warning!!!: Using this will REMOVE your stock android launcher, so make a backup first!

Warning!!!: If you don’t understand what previous warnings mean, DON’T USE THIS.

For use in latests cyanogenmod 5.0.8-testX
adb push ADWLauncherxxxxx.apk /system/app/ADWLauncher.apk

For use in cyanogenmod 5.0.7x and other eclair roms
adb push ADWLauncherxxxxx.apk /system/app/Launcher.apk

If you don’t know howto use adb, or prefer flashing through recovery, stay tunned to xda threads or my twitter, I’m sure someone will make a “flashable zip”.

Ok, now the downloads:

Enjoy!

hey im diggin the app…im runnin cyanogens 5.0.8 t4 so ita already included…..

i had a question….i dont like “seeing” the notification bar so i do like the option to hide it (which is already included so thanx :] ) but do u think it would be possible just to make the notification bar hidden but still have the option to swipe it down?

its a lil more convenient than hitting menu then notification….and i figured itd be easier to get to u than to cyanogen….

Thanks for the sweet launcher and ur time ;)

@gringo: the version that is invluded in 5.0.8t4 is 0.7.7. This is 0.8.2, which is NOT included. You should probably update.

      @AnderWeb awesome work, many thanks!

  1. Since yesterdays update my folders have no labels. I had originally chosen to remove labels on my desktop icons and labels on the folder remained which is what I wanted since having several identical floder icons with no labels causes confusion. Please put the folder labels back.

Just a quick question, is there any difference between adb push and overwriting the file (using root explorer for exsample) in /system/app??

    Best….Launcher…..Ever!!!!

I love this home replacement but worried with everyone’s two cents it can get bloated like others out there. They all start out fast like Helix Launcher and gradually go downhill as everyone wants the kitchen sink with it.

I pretty much love it the way it is and just improve speed & performance.

Thanks so much for the work and fabulous app!

  2. Hell yeah! Thanks for the fast update. How about tabbed app drawer soon?

    Hey,

    awesome work man…works pretty good.

Any plans for a new donut system version? Would be great if there would be a newer one than the 0.6.9

    • June 15th, 2010 9:27pm

Do you have any plans to include the option for the 3D drawer? That is one of the only new features I would love to see. Great work though, I love it. Thanks.

  3. Exelent launcher !

I recently switched from Launcher PRO to this one, and adding the option for 4 action buttons cemented my choice.

Now, i have a friend whining cause since yesterday (maybe after 0.8), he notices that the home screen is not as smooth, it sometimes “hangs” (almost unnotizable :P) when switching screens.

Today launcher pro was updated to also support scrollable widgets, and people reported that it now was less smooth too, in a similar way.

the developer then added the option to disable scrollable widgets, cause he thinks the problem was related to that.

Could you add the option not to enable scrolling in widgets, for people that don´t need that feature ?

    • June 15th, 2010 10:01pm

    Feature: Hide labels in drawer.

I die every time I see a new version without the option. :P

    • SECONDED. that would make adw.launcher epic and full of win >.<

    • June 15th, 2010 10:02pm

Best so far. Needs some more basic options likr swipe up for drawer instead of dock, option for drawer backgrounds (like nexus bg) put icons next to drawer (not action buttons) and uninstall on drop. Please!

    • You can remove the dots as of this version and replace them with secondary shortcuts, and there’s always been a drop to uninstall feature. you just hold the app icon over the trash can for like 2 seconds.

    Hi,

I have a problem, LAB and RAB are shown in preview mode even when I disable it in options, using 0.8.2 version, but drawer button is not shown… any fix soon? This didn’t happen with previous versions

With large widgets when you add more routes to the desktop then some of the widget is cut off at the bottom

    • June 15th, 2010 10:23pm

I like the additions and the way the icon text when you open the app drawer is hidden until the icons are all faded in.

Downside is that swiping between the homes screens seems to be a wee bit laggy with 0.8.2 (Donut version). The app drawer animation might be a bit more laggy too.

      • June 16th, 2010 10:38am

if u use pure messenger scrollable widgets, remove widgets then re-install adw.
I feel same speed as 0.78 by this way.

guess improvement is still necessary for the scrollable function.

For use in latests cyanogenmod 5.0.8-testX
    adb push ADWLauncherxxxxx.apk /system/app/ADWLauncher.apk

i did push the file and it says:
    1279 KB/s (649944 bytes in 0.496s)

when i reboot the phone and check the ADWSettings it still says version 0.7.8 what am I doing wrong?

Hey Anderweb, just to clarify… will 0.8.2 remove the stock Home for non-rooted users? or just for rooted? Up to this point I’ve installed it on my non-rooted droid and kept the stock home. I’m hesitant to install this latest update before hearing your response. Thanks :)

      • June 16th, 2010 4:38am

+1 on the Nexus 1 3d app drawer

      • -1 on the 3D app drawer. just more little things slowing your phone down.

    • June 16th, 2010 6:55am

I am thoroughly loving this launcher! It can be set to whatever you like and it’s only version 0.8!
In the future versions would it be possible to have the selection glow effect (when you press an icon) only around the icon itself and not a giant generic box. currently, the box goes into the other icons and it’s just distracting.
    Thanks

    Hello

Just upgraded to 0.8.2 and I notice too much lag in changing desktop screens. I use widgets in all 5 screens and it was running super smooth up to 0.7.8 but now it is way too laggy. I don’t know if it is the widget scrolling thing but it is unusable now.
Hope you can fix it soon!

    Cheers

    hola,
usando la version 0.82 del market.
hay un problema al añadir widgets.
el widget no se añade en la posicion en la que has hecho el
click, sino en otra posicion aleatoria, lo que
obliga a mover el widget para reposicionarlo.
    gracias

    Hi,

I have a bug on the number of screen parameter: I have to set 5 on settings to get 4 desktop screens.

If I set 7 in the xml file and restore it, I got 7 screens and the parameter is set to 8.

    thx

most excellent work on this app. thank you very much.

the new version seems to have a change that is affecting “Digital Clock Widget” (from the marketplace). that dev has reported in the past an issue with the time getting cut off. I never had that issue until the after installing 0.8.2, i’m not sure if this is a you or him thing. but it’s like the ‘grid’ is off somehow. i tried mucking with the recently added stretch icons settings but so far no love.

any ideas appreciated. as much as i like how that clock works for my layout, it will go away before adw.launcher. :)

    • June 16th, 2010 6:30pm

issue resolved. i went and readjusted all the column/row numbers and the stretchy thing again (basically jiggling the handle) and restarted. it is displaying correctly now.

    quite probably user error.

k…i’m going to go back and see if i can break it again….

Thank you very much for the great Launcher! It works great on my milestone, however, I noticed that when I enabled the “Wallpaper Hack”, my wallpaper went down a few millimeters (I think this due to the space for status bar). And another thing is that it doesn’t move the actual wallpaper, when I lock the screen I see the wallpaper place differently on your Launcher.

Please look into those two bugs :-)

Thank you again for your hard work!

    hola,
    gracias!

Great launcher. With latest update though, the background for the all apps button wont hide. Tried cycling the check box a couple of times, reloading the launcher and nada. The RAB/LAB backgrounds hide fine – and the all apps background hid ok in the prior version. Running on a stock Incredible.

    hi,
    love this launcher. some suggestions:

o instead of the auto stretch, why not have the widgets scale to fit the row/col instead?

o any way to make it so that holding down the trackball (for a predefined amount of time, ie: 2 seconds) will put the phone in standby mode? or maybe even make this a hold-down-home-button option?

if the 2nd happens i would be more than happy to donate. :)
