Updates and “call for calm”
Hey, I’ve been receiving a lot of cool feature request, and a lot of error reports too, and requests for the “flashable” zips…
I always try to make the more people happy I can, but as the base “user group” grows… my problems grow with them!
Anyway, I’m asking you all for a little patience, I try to fix/add/remove all I can as soon as I can… :-)
Lets do a little briefing here:
- If any of you find an error (ForceClose message), I would REALLY appreciate the following:
- Download from market (is free) the app “aLogcat“
- Try to reproduce the error with ADW.Launcher.
- As soon as you get the FC, open aLogcat, click Menu/Level and check “ERROR“.
- Now click Menu/More/save log.
- Take the log and paste it on http://www.pastebin.com and place a comment here with the link to the pasted log.
- That’s all :-)
- Lags/speeds/etc: Believe me, I always try to improve this, but i’m not a google engineer… I started programing android only 4 months ago… Anyway, i found the bug causing the extra lag difference between 0.7.1 and 0.7.2 when using “LWP support” OFF. I’ll revert back those changes back in next release.
- Droidmod users: I’m gonna release soon another update for (hopefully) fix their FC’s… but you need to know the truth: Its the ROM’s fault! Seems DroidMod “fools” the system so android apps thinks its an Android 2.1 rom… so it breaks my checks to avoid your FC’s! You should consider changing your rom for a real 2.1 one or a real 2.0.1 one.
- Bettercut/other shortcut apps: Since 0.7.2 I support the “receiving” of shortcuts from every app, BUT Bettercut can only EDIT shortcuts from the stock launcher app (com.android.launcher). That’s not anything I can fix, you can use bettercut to CREATE icons, not to EDIT them, sorry.
- Requests: Pinch to zoom, two more icons instead the dots, workspace looping…. people ask for a lot of things, and i’ll try to add them as soon as I can… but I’m just a noob, gimme some time please! ;-)
- Special bug: There’s a lovely bug (damn, is not lovely at all but… ;-P ) where dockbar icons get messed if you add a shortcut to desktop from ANY app (inside browser bookmarks, longclick one and select “add to home screen”, or adding one with bettercut, etc). If you rotate your phone once, dockbar icons recover their positions. So if you find anytime your dockbar icons messed, just rotate your phone once (or kill it from settings and load it again) at least until i fix myself the error. Thanks ;-)
Now for the “system” version (the flashable zips).
I’m gonna refresh my github repo just as I finish this post, BUT actually this is a MESS for me as i have now 3 different branches and I am very new to git… so I usually work only on 1 branch and then try to “manually mirror” the code changes to the other ones….
This is NOT the correct way to do this…. so it takes ages to make all of the branches “in sync”… I’m on it guys, any help on git, hints, tips, instructions…. would be VERY appreciated ;-)

The only issue I have had is the lag increase from 0.7.1 to 0.7.2 and I am glad you found the bug. Can’t wait for the next release!! Keep it up man, it’s greatly appreciated!!!

What you said makes a lot of sense. We all should be patient and not pressure you into mistakes. Good app that can be great, we just need to wait. Just don’t slow it down. :-)

Yeah, Google seems to only update the stats for the Android Market when they want to, because my downloads haven’t changed in a week or more. Oh well.
I love being able to kill the text beneath the icons on the Home screen! Started using it with rc1 and haven’t used anything else since, keep up the good work!
Is there any way to make it compatible with sense widgets and the overall sense features? I’m using an Incredible.. I just miss those features but would love to use this launcher!

and in response to number 5 above……….I understand requests, but one that was mentioned above I want to comment on. The request to dock 2 more apps and remove the dots, I like it the way it is, if I wanted a fast launcher with 4 apps to dock I’d use LaucherPro Beta. Besides, you can dock 6 apps under that so why would you need 2 more? If you do make this change can you make it optional? I like the FroYo look it’s got going on right now. Thanks, just my 2 cents, not trying to piss anyone off.
yes I agree, I was going to say the same thing, if he/you are going to add these features I would hope that you just leave the option that is already there to remove the dots and then just add an option to add the other 2 icons on the sides and then maybe just add the icon background to keep the froyo look but with 4 icons or the option to remove it which again is already there
0.7.3 fixes the lag issues I had on my N1, 5.0.6 CM, pershoot kernel! Back to using it most of the time now.

Is it possible to get the circle notifications in cheap icons. I don’t seem to get the green circles anymore. Any thoughts?

I havent got 1 FC since I updated to 7.3 , but I did get a few in the previous version, thanks for being receptive about the features , you care and we appreciate it ..
btw The power button bug I mentioned earlier is NOT related to the launcher , I fixed my problem using spare parts .
I noticed when you press the home button to use the leap feature, the background goes black until you choose a screen. If that’s a bug can it be fixed, if it’s suppose to be like that can it be switched back? Like seeing my wallpaper
I have not noticed this, I have seen it a few times but that is because of the slow processor on my g1 not because of the launcher, it usually is fine

seems there’s a problem if you hit twice the “home” button when the app is killed.
First hit starts loading the launcher, secobd hit sjows the previews.
But if the second hit reaches before the app is fully loaded, the previews fc on trying to draw themselves with unexistant desktop screens.
I’m gonna add a little check to (hopefully) fix it.

Love the launcher, I was just hoping that in future releases, if you choose to hide the notification bar, have it showing the status bar when you hit the menu key, instead of having to hit notifications and have the dropdown panel. Pinch to preview would also be a nice addition

Anderweb, I don’t know why, but 0.7.1 is fastest and most stable version of Your launcher. It’s great, the best launcher I ever use. Ver. 0.7.3 os still laggy and slowly like 0.7.2. I’m looking why, but… not today… I’m already tired and I miss the ideas already (CM 5.0.7 Stable ported by alan 090 on htc Magic)

May i know how do you changed your wallpaper when that FC showed up? Within android gallery? other app?

That wasn’t problem in LWP Support. I have always turned it off. I think the problem was in the widgets and shortcuts on the screen. When I move out everything from screen (manually), it start work correctly (damn,it’s fast!) and now I move widgets and shortcuts back to screen and everything is OK :)
Now I have 0.7.4 and here is no “LWP Support” option. It was great, because with this option turned off i can set the LWP only on lockscreen. But this is not very important, I can live without it ;)

Possible to post back v0.7.3? as v0.7.4 is full of FC, reinstall also not helping.
I just downloaded 0.7.4 from market and I noticed that the “support LWP” button is missing. I don’t mind that option being gone, but it now causes the status bar to appear all black if there’s transparency.

The top status bar is 0.7.4. The bottom is 0.7.3. However, in 0.7.3, if you were to de-select the LWP support, it would also cause the all black issue.
If that option in settings is not returning, would you be able to possibly see why this occurs? Thanks.
PS – I vehemently LOVE this launcher.
Your feature request (the statusbar thing) seems to be incompatible with the wallpaper hack… in 0.7.5 i added it back so you can disable it and have your glassy statusbar back :-)
How about adding an option to hide the names of applications in the home screens, so all you see is your icons. Helix has it and it makes your home screens look super clean and sleek. Great launcher though, will use it when this option gets implemented.

I just can’t resist and try your launcher after reading all these applause! I come from launcherPRO so smoothness will be a key factor. These are my findings after 30min playing with it on my stock N1 Froyo:
1) Zooming to app drawer is not smooth, but scrolling afterwards is alright ;
[scolling spd: 525, overshoot:40, zoom spd: 550]
2) names of applications can be hidden with setting BUT the names of widgets are not hddien at the same time and this find it very inconsistent;
3) the battery time lite widget is not working probably, it shows strange color sometimes. Never had this problem with stock launcher or launcherPRO;
4) is the app dock arrangeable? I’d like to rearrange it but seems impossible;
5) some ppl say this is a battery drain, while some say it saves their battery big time. I dunno yet but I will run it a few days to see.
These are the findings so far. It’s definitely a better launcher than the stock! I will be on this launcher for a few days and see how it goes!

More findings:
1) app created in the dock may overlap, hv to del and create again;
2) after numerous of zoom in/out and numerous of rotation on the app drawer, some icons will be overlap then launcher FC;
3) long press on the dots FC once (so far in 1 hr);
4) redraw of the widgets sames not as fast (blinked).
It just went out of control right b4 I sent this post (not scrollable, show “recent app” when I was actually trying to scroll to next screen, show super slow scrolling….) for 30sec, then it became normal again…. strange….
Non-root N1 Froyo, with stock launcher and luncherPRO closed already in application setting.
A couple of things I’d love to see in ADW Launcher are ability to create folders in the menu and move items into there, and also to hide useless items from the menu list (“SIM Tools”, stock calculator and messaging etc. etc).
These were very nice features from AdvancedLauncher that I miss.
As i stated in the post, i just ignore comments about fcs if they don’t provide a logcat link. C’mon guys i cannot fix things if i don’t know what’s broken! ;-)
Usually phones are different, roms too, themes, installed apps…
So logcat plus info on how to recreate the bug are the only thing i can use to fix problems…

I was changing from downloaded wallpaper back to a stock one.
And if I can, I’d like to say to the people asking for the ability to dock 4 apps on the bottom bar, and asking for other “launcher pro” or “helix” type changes. I’m not saying this to be an ass but if that’s what you want then why not stay with those launchers? This is an AWESOME launcher, I love the froyo look to it, but if I wanted it to look like launcher pro I’d switch to out and not ask to change this work to look like someone else’s. Besides the 2 visible apps you can dock you can dock 6 more on the hidden bar, how much more do you need? I vote to keep the look and feel as is, this launcher is head and shoulders above the rest, why change it in a way that would make it lost in the crowd? I came from launcher pro as well, great launcher, but it already exists. Just my thoughts

Add please the last link option like in native froyo launcher, for example. If i use dealer native and last time it was calls log list, and when i press dealer button on launcher i want to go directly to call log not digits dial every time.
When adding pure messenger widget, I found you could add more than one instance of it, right on top of the old widget.
